  Green Market

AnewAmerica partnered with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Agricultural Land-Based Training Association (ALBA), working out of Salinas, CA, to administer the Green Market Community Food Project: Creating Opportunities for New American Farmers and Microentrepreneurs (Green Market) program.

We thank the USDA for giving a three-year grant, making the project possible.*

About Green Market

Located in California, Green Market addresses community food security issues in the San Francisco Bay Area and the Central Coast Region.

Our Strategy

The goal of the Green Market project is to build self-reliance and long-term economic sustainability for low-income new American families. This happens by implementing joint strategies with ALBA related to nutrition education, food production, access to markets, and business management. We use community food advocacy to benefit both new American entrepreneurs in the Bay Area and local farmers in the Central Coast area.

Community Building

This project represents a unique opportunity to build a bridge between rural and urban new American communities with the strategic purpose of building food self-reliance and sustainability over time.  The project also links multi-stakeholders in the food and agricultural sector, educational institutions, and private and public sectors.

As new Americans that work in agriculture and food-related businesses, not only do these families play a role in determining how food is produced, processed and marketed to consumers, they also serve as leaders in their community around food security issues.
