Creating Positive Change
Through E-Commerce
AnewAmerica is proud to introduce the E-Store, an innovative
program that brings the benefits and opportunities of e-commerce
to low-income, new American populations. Through specialized
training and individual support, eight new American
entrepreneurs have received the technological skills and the
resources they need to begin selling online on Worldofgood.com by Ebay.
The entrepreneurs selected to participate are among
AnewAmerica’s bravest pioneers in socially responsible
businesses— they are advocates of fair-trade, leaders in green
business, and sustainers of economic growth in their home
countries and
local communities. In this edition we invite you to learn about
their stories and take a closer look at the way these
entrepreneurs are using e-commerce to create global change.

AnewAmerica Grand
Opening in Fruitvale a Success!
On
June 25th, AnewAmerica and over 100 supporters celebrated the
Grand Opening of our new Business Incubator at the La Placita
Building in the Fruitvale district of Oakland. The AnewAmerica
Business Incubator houses a high-tech computer lab, several
AnewAmerica microbusinesses, and a full range of business
development services to benefit the immigrant entrepreneur
community in Oakland and Fruitvale. Hank Fore, Vice President of
Comcast in the East Bay Area, and Mark Quinn, San Francisco
District
Director of the US
Small Business Administration spoke at the opening ceremony to
offer their congratulations. Sylvia Rosales-Fike, President and
CEO of AnewAmerica Community Corporation, and Hank Fore, cut the
ceremonial ribbon allowing supporters, community partners, local
government representatives, and entrepreneurs to enter and tour
the facilities. AnewAmerica retailers in the La Placita building
opened their doors to display their products and talk to guests
about their businesses. On display in the computer lab was
AnewAmerica’s new initiative in e-commerce, the E-Store,
featuring entrepreneurs’ products on Worldofgood.com by Ebay.
The Comcast
Foundation has partnered with AnewAmerica by equipping the new
Computing and Communications Lab with 15 state-of-the art
computer workstations and two large plasma screens. The
Computing and Communications lab is now open to the community,
and will also serve as a classroom for AnewAmerica’s new
business training classes.

Thank you for your support!
We are proud to
announce that we met our challenge to match the MK Gratitude
Fund's Challenge Grant of $50,000! Any contribution that was
made this year above last year’s giving level, and any new
donation (by first-time donors), helped us raise $98,416 as well
as reach our $50,000 Challenge Grant, for a total of $148,416 in
new contributions.
AnewAmerica will use this grant to support our Green Business
Certificate Program to foster green microenterprise development
and the creation of green jobs. Through AnewAmerica's Green
Business Certificate Program, our green business owners take
strides to green their operations, goods and services, and give
back to the community through advocacy and volunteering. |
