2014 Volunteers of the Year

Volunteer of the Year – South Bay

Awardee: Fabianne RicoFabianne Rico

Fabianne Rico has been volunteering with AnewAmerica's San Jose office since January 2014, dedicating more than 80 hours of support for AnewAmerica's entrepreneurs, programs, and staff.

Fabianne is a student at San Jose State University, pursuing a bachelor's degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in marketing and energy policy and green building. He first heard about AnewAmerica's Bridge2Success Internship & Volunteering Program from a friend, and was searching for an opportunity to utilize his knowledge and skills to help support entrepreneurs with the development of their business and marketing plans and goals. While volunteering with AnewAmerica, Fabianne helped entrepreneurs research and review assignments, edit business plans, design and execute marketing campaigns, begin developing a social media marketing toolkit, and provide support during events such as the Fresh Carts Entrepreneurial Training and AnewAmerica's Micro-business Expo. Fabianne will continue his education at San Jose State University this fall, and hopes to pursue a career in energy policy and green building in the future.

Awardee: Rosario Sanchez

Rosario Sanchez currently attends MetWest High School in Oakland. We first met Rosario when she interviewed AnewAmerica for her high school internship. Rosario was looking for a site that helped community members and business owners - AnewAmerica was a perfect fit. Rosario volunteered at our Oakland office where she worked alongside the Market Manager and the rest of our Oakland Staff. Rosario quickly picked up on the rhythm of things and took on many projects including gathering useful resources for our clients, created new flyers and forms, contacted clients for those reminders calls and held us together during deadlines. She volunteered with AnewAmerica for 7 months for approximately 220 hours. Rosario was indispensable and part of the team. We wish her the best as she continues high school and we believe that she will be successful in her educational and career goals.
