2007: A New America, A New Marketplace

This year AnewAmerica hosted our 8th Anniversary Gala and Microbusiness Expo at the Holy Redeemer Center in the Oakland hills.  Over 400 guests and 17 microentrepreneur businesses joined us for food, shopping, recognition and celebration of our growth and accomplishments.

The 2007 Community Angel Award Winners included: Maggie Kaplan, Irma Lopez-Heredia, Anthony Dang, and Assemblywoman Loni Hancock. Jessica Aguirre, the Emmy Award winning anchor of NBC 11 News, was the master of ceremonies. Our distinguished guests included Berkeley Mayor Tom Bates, Oakland City Council President Ignacio De La Fuente, and Councilmen Larry Reid, as well as representatives from the offices of Senators Barbara Lee and Ellen Corbett.

2006: Weaving Our Common Threads

AnewAmerica's community enjoyed entertainment from Indonesia, Colombia, and Africa! The shopped at our microbusiness exposition, featuring many of AnewAmerica's entrepreneurs, and enjoyed food from around the world.

The celebration was emcee'd by Janice Edwards from NBC 11 and featured Sr. Linda Orrick, AnewAmerica Board Chair, Ana Chretien, Gala Chair, Maggie Kaplan, WBC Advisory Board Chair, Henry Reynoso of Union Bank, Darlene McKinnon and Lola Robinson of the U.S. Small Business Administration, Thomas Wilson of Cathay Bank,  and Luis Sanchez of Washington Mutual.

2005: Harvesting the New American Dream

Over 300 friends gathered to enjoy festive entertainment and cuisine in honor of AnewAmerica's entrepreneurs and Community Angel Awardees.  Funds raised by this event are to support economically disadvantaged new American entrepreneurs and their families.

This celebration of entrepreneurship, community and culture included speakers Sr. Linda Orrick, AnewAmerica Board Chair; Maggie Kaplan, WBC Advisory Board Chair; Mauricio Galan of Citibank; Lola Robinson of the U.S. Small Business Administration and Celina Rodriguez, Telemundo, as the Master of Ceremonies.

2004: Illuminating Identity

The annual gala celebrates new Americans and the work that AnewAmerica and others have done in helping to further the endeavor. 

This celebration of entrepreneurship, community and culture included keynote speaker Oakland Mayor Jerry Brown.  Other speakers were Ana Chretien, Board Member and Gala Chair, and Maria Gallo, of Union Bank, the gala corporate sponsor this year.  Maria Leticia Gomez, news anchor, Noticias Univision 14 was the Emcee.
